Batavia man killed in fire

BATAVIA — A man was found dead after a fire burned a home to the ground south of Batavia Tuesday.
The body of David Headley, 66, was found in the remains of the structure. The fire occurred at 2387 Ash Ave., and was reported at 5:24 a.m. that day. Several surviving dogs were recovered from the scene of the fire.
According to a news release from the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, emergency responders were notified of a structure fire that morning and attempted to put out the fire. The home was considered a total loss.
Fire rescue units from Batavia, Libertyville and Eldon fire departments responded, along with deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of Headley’s death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office pending autopsy results.
