A Jan. 8 heart attack kept Randy Major from his first council meeting as Batavia mayor the following night.
Now, almost two months and one council meeting later, he?s delving into city business.
?It got to be real comfortable real quick,? Major said, explaining he?s been able to draw on his 12 prior years of experience as a councilman.
So far, city officials have mostly been focused on carryover issues. Major has, however, been meeting with the city?s two new council members, as well as returning council members, to find out more about what they would like to accomplish.
One of the first things Major hopes to roll out is a longer, more frequent city newsletter ?to keep people more informed of what?s going on.?
He?s also been working with the council?s street committee to lay out a plan for this summer?s street repairs.
?I?ve got a real great council,? Major said. ?They take a lot of responsibility on themselves and that makes my job easier.?
Retired from Jefferson County Health Center, Major has time to assist the city clerk and maintenance man. He complimented both of their work and said he checks in several times each week.
?It?s been good,? Major said. ?It?s been pretty quiet so far.?
