There was some major excitement last week on the 400 block of East Harlan Street. A female jogger knocked on the door of Mark and Melissa Coleman, asking them if they were aware they had a big limb down in the street. The Colemans did not know and upon looking outside, noticed their big hard maple tree had dropped a huge limb into the street. The couple was rather surprised because there was no wind or major disturbance.
While inspecting the downed limb, the sound of buzzing was heard. Honey bees had built a large nest in the crotch of the tree, weakening it. Since the limb was nearly blocking the street, the Colemans called the police department. The police also summoned city worker Harry Hayward to bring an end-loader to clear the street. While Hayward was completing his task, he was stung on the arm. Mark Coleman said he has been walking by the tree ever since being a youngster in the mid-1970s.
