WASHINGTON — The Washington Betterment Foundation plans to hold a fundraising bar crawl Oct. 28, bringing a tradition it usually hosts around St. Patrick’s Day to early Autumn.
Betterment Foundation Committee Member Steve Roth said demand was high for an October iteration of the event.
“People have been asking for it,” he said. “I know it’s busy time of year, but people are looking for an adult Halloween party, so we decided we’d do an adult Halloween party and see how it goes.”
Roth said the event would largely resemble its predecessor in March. Participants can buy $20 tickets ahead of time, which come with a coozie, a free drink at all five establishments involved, and admittance to any of the three buses that ferry eventgoers between venues. March’s crawl had only two buses.
Unlike its event in the spring, the Betterment Foundation will not provide T-shirts for this season’s party, instead “highly encouraging” participants to dress up in costumes, with prizes for the night’s best outfits.
Roth said he expected a lively, if slightly smaller turnout, Saturday night. The foundation has printed 300 tickets for the night, over 100 of which have already sold, while the St. Patrick’s Day event tends to bring around 350-400 people out to a night on the town.
The Betterment Foundation has four years of pub crawl organizing experience under its belt, as well as a long line of projects it’s helped finance with the proceeds. The list includes the new Wellness Park Playground, the YMCA Indoor Pool, the Washington Mural on South Iowa Avenue, several tree plantings, and hanging flower baskets around town.
“All funds help beautify and enhance Washington,” Betterment Foundation Committee Member Greta Clemons said. “That’s the goal of the foundation, so that’s what the proceeds are going toward.”
Tickets for the upcoming Bar Crawl can be purchased online at the event’s GiveButter.com page, and picked up or purchased at Unc & Neph's Tuesday between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24. Tickets purchased online can also be picked up at the Washington Chamber of Commerce building during business hours this week.
The event runs from 5-10 p.m. Saturday. Buses will travel between Lebowski’s, JP’s 207, Unc & Neph’s, Washington Golf & Country Club, and Wagon Wheel from 5:30-9:30 p.m.
