MT. PLEASANT - Henry County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss has announced that a major thoroughfare west of Mt. Pleasant will close in a few weeks while a bridge is replaced.
The county road department has set a tentative date of Dec. 1 to begin work replacing the Big Creek Bridge on 235th Street, a few miles west of Mt. Pleasant. Starting that date, the subcontractor will begin off-road work, until Dec. 8., when the road is to be closed.
After Dec. 8, traffic will be directed around the bridge. Hotchkiss promised another update next week regarding the details of the detour and the rest of the project.
“It’s construction, so you never know what’s gonna happen,” he said. “It’s a pretty simple job.”
Hotchkiss emphasized that Dec. 1 is still a tentative plan, and that the start of construction may be delayed by any manner of thing: weather, previous commitments, etc.
