Bill Bare of Mt. Pleasant, a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), has been honored by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) for his volunteer service with RSVP.
Bare was nominated by Carol Dustman, Henry County RSVP director, for the honor.
He averages 25 hours per month in the medical transportation program, driving individuals to medical appointments. ?He is an unrelenting volunteer, always helping when he can,? Dustman said.
Bare has volunteered for the food panty and in medical transportation since 2007. He is retired from janitorial and carpentry work.
This week, Bare is being featured at www.volunteeriowa.org as part of Gov. Terry Branstad?s ?A Call to Service? initiative, designed to challenge and encourage Iowans to give back to their communities through volunteerism and service.
The ICVS and its partner agencies work with organizations on three main fronts. The first is to help agencies to develop quality programs that use service as a strategy to fulfill their missions and address Iowa?s greatest areas of need.
Secondly, ICVS helps engage Iowans in their communities by promoting service and expanding the volunteer base. Finally, its third area of work is to connect individuals with appropriate service opportunities by building the volunteer infrastructure.
Henry County?s RSVP has 122 active volunteers who provide service to 20 different organizations in Henry County.
