A northern Iowa lawmaker has introduced a measure to overturn a ban on guns at the state?s public university campuses, but the proposal came too late to be considered during this session.
Rep. Tom Shaw, a Republican from Laurens, introduced the bill Thursday. It was sent to the House Public Safety Committee, which won?t meet again before a deadline for bills to win approval in order to remain eligible for debate.
The measure would prohibit gun bans on college campuses. Iowa?s three public universities now have such bans. Rules vary at private colleges.
House Speaker Kraig Paulsen says other pro-gun measures may be debated in the House during this session.
