A new biology class will be offered at Fairfield High School beginning next year.
The class outline and benchmarks for biology II were approved by the Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors Monday night.
Curriculum director Marci Dunlap explained the new class was created so students could obtain the three science classes required for graduation by the Iowa Core Curriculum.
Currently, integrated science, physics, chemistry I and chemistry II are offered in physical sciences, and biology I and anatomy and physics are offered in life sciences.
?We are unbalanced,? said Dunlap.
She explained students who have taken certain tracks of math classes, such as algebra I or geometry, would not have the math skills they need for success in the chemistry or anatomy and physics classes, but they would have the skills needed for the new biology II class.
