Henry County Health Center Pharmacist Michele Birdsell was recently honored by the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy as a 2011 University of Iowa Hospital Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year.
?Michele has created a wonderful Pharmacy student experience here at Henry County Health Center. She has worked throughout our organization to bring a wide variety of clinical exposure to the future pharmacists of our state and country. Her commitment to the students and the program is second to none, and we are so proud of her achievement,? commented John Vallandingham, HCHC?s Director of Pharmacy.
Nominations for the preceptor of the year awards were accepted from students, faculty, and staff. Winners were selected by the College of Pharmacy Professional Experience Program committee. Recipients were honored at the college's continuing education event on Friday, Oct. 21.
The awards recognize preceptors who have demonstrated excellence in enhancing the student rotation educational experience. Winners were selected in three categories, and Birdsell was selected as the 2010-2011 Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience, Preceptor of the Year.
?Your site, and Michele, truly provide an outstanding learning environment for our students. The award is given each fall and reflects accomplishments in the past year. The award is based heavily on student feedback and from their comments it is clear that Michele has created a terrific experience for our students at Henry County Health Center,? explained Michael Kelly, University of Iowa College of Pharmacy Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. ?Michele makes a great contribution to our College and the Pharmacy profession. We realize that educational experiences like these would not be available without the strong support of your organization.?
