The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of north central Illinois, northwest Illinois, west central Illinois, east central Iowa, northeast Iowa, southeast Iowa, including Jefferson County and northeast Missouri.
Bitter cold wind chills of 15 below to 30 below zero are expected tonight. A wind chill advisory is in affect from 9 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Friday.
An arctic high pressure will move through the area tonight into Friday. Temperatures will be 5 below to 21 below zero.
Winds will be northwest, around 5 mph, shifting to the south after midnight.
Frostbite will occur in as few as 30 minutes in these conditions.
If you must go outdoors, dress in layers covering exposed skin.
There is a chance of snow Saturday as a storm system moves through the area. An early estimate suggests an inch or two of accumulation is possible.
A major arctic outbreak will occur across the area Sunday night through Tuesday. The probability is very high that wind chill advisories will be needed for the outlook area.
