Henry County supervisors are putting the repair of a county-owned building at 106 N. Jackson St. on the fast track.
The building was damaged over Labor Day weekend when an unknown vehicle backed into the north side of the building and broke a couple large panes of glass.
The board initially received a quote of $6,172 to replace the glass. Further discussion, however, led the supervisors to opt for adding some brick to the building, which would allow smaller panes of glass to be used.
?The adjustor was very much in favor of blocking up the middle and using smaller windows,? Moeller said.
He said bids for blocking up the middle and smaller panes came to $6,926.39. The county insurance policy has a $2,500 deductible.
Supervisor Gary See suggested discussing the renovations with Jack Swarm, Mt. Pleasant Planning and Zoning administrator. ?We should contact him to make sure the window is commercially acceptable.?
Moeller said he would discuss the matter with Swarm.
In a barren agenda, the only other business was a subcommittee report from Marc Lindeen on a recent meeting of the Community Action of Southeast Iowa Board of Directors.
Lindeen said the board was considering moving the Burlington Head Start and Early Head Start programs from the current location on Agency Road to the former James Madison Junior High School.
?I think it is a win for both groups,? Lindeen assessed. ?It was a very good meeting and very interesting.?
The board did not take action on the matter. The Burlington School Board meeting will meet next week to consider allowing the programs to be housed in the school building.
Henry County?s Board of Supervisors will meet again in regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m., in the courthouse.
