Board votes to cancel Jefferson County Fair

The Jefferson County Fair Board met Wednesday, May 13, and voted to cancel the 2020 Greater Jefferson County Fair amid fears of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a Facebook post from late Wednesday night, Greater Jefferson County Fair Board President Mike Filson wrote that it was with 'great sadness” that he must announce the fair's cancellation.

'With the COVID-19 pandemic not subsiding and the restrictions that are still in place, we made the tough decision to postpone the Greater Jefferson County Fair until June of 2021,” Filson wrote. 'We will still do some type of 4-H project shows on the original fair dates whether it be virtual or show and go. This will be decided in the near future and we will keep everyone updated. Thanks for all of your support in this difficult decision.”

This year's fair was originally scheduled to run June 22-29.
