The cause of death is unknown at this time, but an autopsy is being performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner?s Office. Fairfield Police Chief Julie Harvey said there is nothing suspicious about the cause of death ? the police department investigates all unattended deaths as routine procedure.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Attorney?s Office, the Fairfield Police Department received an emergency 911 call at approximately 10:38 a.m. Thursday, reporting a male subject who appeared to be deceased and looked like he had hit his head in the alley behind the Landmark Inn. Upon arrival, the police discovered the body of a male individual in an apartment at the back of the Landmark Inn with an entrance to the alley.
Ambulance personnel confirmed the body was deceased, and the medical examiner investigator pronounced Streitmatter dead.
Assisting with the investigation are the Fairfield Police Department, Iowa State Medical Examiner?s Office, Jefferson County Area Ambulance Service and Jefferson County Attorney?s Office.
