Bonebrake, early scores boost Highland past Columbus
Huskies running back gets 244 yards, quarterbacks excel for both teams

RIVERSIDE — Friday was a successful night for quarterbacks in the Highland versus Columbus football game with 247 combined yards. Even more successful was the Huskies’ Brenton Bonebrake, who had 244 yards rushing on just 17 carries.
Of 17 combined passes in the Class A District 5 game, 14 were completed. Highland’s Connor Grinstead was 6-for-6 and Highland’s Jeff Hoback was 8-for-11.
The perfect completions won the game as Highland scored 28 points in the first half of a 48-20 win over the Wildcats.
Bonebrake had 17 carries to reach 244 yards, an average of 14.4 per run. He found the end zone four times. That’s basically an average of a touchdown every fourth time he touched the football.
Grinstead ran 10 times for 70 yards and half of his passes went for touchdowns with Luke Miller, Jaden Schmid and Logan Bonebrake each catching one. Logan Bonebrake caught three more passes for a total of 103 yards receiving.
Grinstead led the defense with 8.5 tackles. Yahir Jimenez added 7.0 and Carson Netser 6.5.
Hoback rushed for two touchdowns and a 107-yard rushing total on 12 carries while teammates Kaden Amigon and Andrew Gonzalez combined for 121 yards on 25 carries. Amigon caught five passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Amigon, Cole Storm, Logan Bright and Cael Phillips all had at least five tackles each to lead the Wildcats defense.
Highland, which rolled up 522 yards of offense, plays at Wilton Friday. Columbus, which had 319 yards of offense, plays at Wapello.
