The Mt. Pleasant Community School District will have another open seat for the September general school board election.
District V director, Brad Holtkamp, announced his resignation on Thursday, July 16. His resignation will become effective at the end of the September regular school board meeting, which will be on Monday, Sept. 14.
Holtkamp has served on the board since 2009, including several years as president.
?This will be seven years for me,? said Holtkamp. ?The way it worked out, John Roderer was leaving as superintendent the same year my term was up. I was asked to stay on the board for continuity with the new superintendent.?
At the time, Holtkamp said he would stay for two years and depending on how it went, he would decide if he would finish out his four-year term.
Since then, his children have all finished school and his business has moved to a new location and increased.
?It?s hard to devote the time; I?m spread too thin,? he said.
Holtkamp said he is still very much concerned about the needs of the district and plans to continue to give 100 percent until September.
This means all but one seat will be open for the upcoming general school board election on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Additional openings are in Districts 1, 3 and 4, as well as two at-large positions.
Nomination papers for school board seats are available from local school board secretaries and the Iowa Secretary of State website at sos.iowa.gov/elections/schools.html.
School board candidates must obtain at least 50 signatures. Papers must be filed by 5 p.m., July 30, in the school district?s Central Office with the board secretary.
