WASHINGTON - City Council member Brendan DeLong has been chosen as the new fire chief.
During the council meeting on Tuesday, Mayor Jaron Rosien affirmed the fire department election results appointing the chief, assistant chiefs and treasurer.
First Assistant Chief is Bill Hartsock. Second Assistant Chief is Jim Williams, and secretary/treasurer is Phil Morris.
Rosien congratulated DeLong on his new role and thanked current Chief Tom Wide for his years of service.
Council member Steve Gault said he believes DeLong is the youngest fire chief in Washington's history.
Due to his new role - and his new home outside of town - DeLong resigned from his position as the Ward 3 council member, effective after the Jan. 5 council meeting.
'It's been five years, it's been great, and I appreciate everything everyone's ever done for me,” DeLong said.
He also thanked City Clerk Illa Earnest for encouraging him to run for the position.
