FAIRFIELD — Briana Steele, 17 of Lockridge, was crowned the 2023 Jefferson County Fair Queen on Wednesday evening. Steele was also presented with a $2,450 scholarship from the A.G. Mitchell Scholarship fund, marking the first scholarship awarded by the Jefferson County Fair Board to the Fair Queen.
Steele will be a senior at Fairfield High School this fall, and plans to further her education by pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and Agronomy next fall — after graduating from Fairfield high.
Steele also plans to return to Jefferson County after obtaining her degree to teach in the Fairfield Community School District and run her families farm.
Steele grew up in Jefferson County and has attended the Jefferson County fair every year, showing her livestock at the show barn.
“'I’ve come here ever since I can remember and it feels like a family,” Steele said. “Everybody's willing to help you out if you need something, and it's just like a family.”
Steele enjoyed a day of activities with the other Queen contestants and said she enjoyed the jam packed day and the friends she has made among the group.
“It was definitely worth it — I've met a lot of new friends that I will definitely keep in contact with,” Steele said.
Lilian Buie placed first runner-up in the fair queen contest and Tayler McCreedy won Miss Congeniality in this years fair queen contest.
Other contestants include Addison Harris, Andrea Hoy, Hannah Applegate and Kylie Martin.
