The city of Brighton allocated funds from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to its Emergency Medical Services department to buy a Lucas Device last week.
Brighton EMT and Department Treasurer Wayne Gould said the device was designed to make CPR safer and easier.
“It does mechanical compressions of the chest for you,” Gould said. “It’s amazing how much easier it is on us and it’s very consistent in what it does.”
Gould said the device would be added to the city’s ambulance.
“It’s a portable device, and we always carry it in our vehicle,” he said.
Gould said the equipment cost around $15,000.
“We think this will go a long ways toward getting better service to the people in Brighton,” he said. “We appreciate the Riverside Casino helping the city out so they can help us.”
The Riverboat Foundation expressed its own thanks in a Facebook post.
“Thank you Brighton EMS for your great service to your community,” the post said. “We are pleased to see these great projects using WCRF funds!”
