BRIGHTON (GTNS) ? After receiving a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation the Brighton Fire Department will be able to add more space to its building.
The fire department was awarded $46,189 at the WCRF spring grant award ceremony May 1. The city is planning on putting in another $15,000 toward the addition to bring the total cost of the project to $61,189.
The addition will be 42 feet by 16 feet and 12 feet high, said Brighton city clerk Chris Davies. It will add another parking bay to the four the fire department currently has.
?It will add 672 square feet altogether,? he said. ?The fire department has been planning this for a year to a year and a half.?
Brighton Fire Department Captain Jamie Collier said the addition would go on the south side of the building. He also said the space is really needed.
?The city has a community room at city hall, which is oftentimes in use,? he said. ?When we have a meeting, we will pull out a fire truck just so we can meet.?
The city and the fire department are finishing up the specifications for the plans. After that the project will be sent out to bid, Davies said. No date has been set yet for the groundbreaking of the project.
