BRIGHTON – A Brighton man was arrested after allegedly punching his wife in the head, kicking her in the ribs, and firing a shotgun into the ceiling during an argument.
Michael Scott Sines, 42, was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 21 after Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an assault that had occurred earlier that day in northeast Jefferson County. Deputy Brendon Lunsford reported that a woman told him she got into an argument with her husband that turned physical, wherein he allegedly punched her in the head multiple times, kicked her in the ribs, and would not let her leave after she stated she wanted to leave multiple times.
The woman also told Lunsford that her husband pressed the muzzle of a 20-gauge shotgun to her chest and head, and that he fired a shot into the ceiling of the bedroom during the altercation.
“During all of this, their 13-year-old daughter was home and heard the altercation, and at one point came into the room to try to get the defendant to stop,” Lunsford wrote.
Lunsford noted that he observed bruising and redness on the victim’s face, hands, arms and chest, and that there was a circular red mark on her chest which appeared to be from the barrel of the shotgun being pressed against it. The woman also stated that she has partial hearing loss in her right ear due to punches to the head.
Sines was arrested and charged with the following crimes:
Intimidation with a dangerous weapon – injuring or provoking fear
Willful injury – causing serious injury
Assault while participating in a felony – serious injury
Going armed with intent
Domestic abuse assault – display or use of weapon – first offense
Child endangerment
Harassment – first degree
False imprisonment
Sines’s bond was set at $50,000, and his preliminary hearing was set for Oct. 3.
