BRIGHTON — For the first time since COVID-19 reached Iowa, Brighton will hold an Easter Egg Hunt this weekend, thanks to a joint effort by local groups.
Tommy’s Helping Hands is one of those groups. While the new organization in town has mostly focused on community meals during recent holidays, Member Connie Blosser-Emry said the Easter festivities would serve the same purpose.
“It's just a great way to bring the kids together in our community,” she said. “With inflation, so many have fallen in hard times, and sometimes, that's when you see communities put their cities and towns back together. People aren't traveling and getting together as much as they use to, and it's a great way for Tommy's Helping Hands to pour back into the community.”
Blosser-Emry said the event would go all-out, with an Easter bunny, characters from Trolls, a food truck, popcorn, and cotton candy.
Other local groups involved include the Brighton Chamber, the city, and a handful of donors.
“The city’s really coming together to accommodate and have fun with the whole community,” Blosser-Emry said. “We’re just thankful for all the support and everything from the town … it’s a group effort.”
The egg hunt begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8 at Brighton’s city park.
