The Brighton City Council met Tuesday night at city hall. Michael Pringle asked the council for permission to hold a flag football game at the Brighton Ball Park on Friday, Nov. 19. Permission was granted. The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 23 but was postponed due to rain.
Pringle said when he first approached the councilabout holding a flag football game under the lights of Brighton Ball Park, it would be the first time the Brighton Bears would have played on the field in over 25 years.
He said anyone who wants to play is welcome.
Bud Pitt, Jamie Collier, Chuck Emry and Jim Miller attended the introductory meeting on the endurance run from New London to Brighton. Collier and Emry agreed to serve on the board. The council then voted unanimously to give a one-time sponsorship of $2,500 out of Riverboat funds for economic development.
Councilor Melvin Rich moved to approve two building permits for residents. One was for Kenny Shearon to place two sheds on his property and the other was for Tom Fluharty to install a porch. The permits were granted.
Rich also moved to approve a building permit for Miller to install an outside basement entrance and stairway at 402 South Harrison. Miller abstained from the vote due to a conflict of interest.
