Brighton to hold yard sales this weekend

The Brighton Chamber of Commerce says it’s coordinating yard sales in the city on Sept. 24 and 25.

“It’s kind of a new thing,” Chamber member Kristi McArtor said. “I’ve lived in the community maybe four, four-and-a-half years, and they’ve just had one since I’ve lived here.”

McArtor said the Chamber had reached out on Facebook to seek more yard sale hosts, after about half a dozen people expressed interest by the start of the week.

While yard sale coordination is typically beyond the function of a town’s chamber of commerce, McArtor said the Chamber sought to reorient its community involvement after a broad change in leadership earlier this year.

“It is a totally new chamber, new members,” she said. “We’re trying to do more for our community and get our community involved and get them excited about things … I would like to see this little community really come together and look out for one another and do things.”
