Brighton water tower undergoes repairs

Crews expected work to be done on the water tower in Brighton, which is getting its riser pipe replaced for the first time since the tower was installed in the ‘80s.
“The bottom was deteriorating and the expansion joint was bad, so it had to be replaced,” Mayor Melvin Rich said. “We’re replacing approximately 130 or 140 feet of it because it’s all the way up.”
In total, the repairs run for $59,250.
Crews started draining the tower last weekend, and were contracted to finish within 10 days, although the crews expected to finish sooner, according to Rich.
The process required draining the tower, but Rich said doing so did not notably disrupt the town’s water supply.
“We’re hooked into Wapello rural water for our water supply,” Rich said. “We had one minor leak Monday that was fixed, that effected a little over three blocks for half a day, and other than that ... as long as everything goes according to schedule, there shouldn’t be interruptions at all.”
