FAIRFIELD — The Broadway Players of Fairfield High School will present their spring play over a three-day span from Friday through Sunday at the FHS Auditorium.
The young thespians will perform “Twelve Angry Jurors,” an adaptation of the Emmy-winning teleplay “Twelve Angry Men” by Reginald Rose, which was turned into a film in 1957 starring Henry Fonda. The showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.00 at the door or free with FCSD activities pass. It is general seating, and the house will open 30 minutes prior to the performance.
Drama department director Noel Wotherspoon said that the original teleplay was written in 1954 when women could not serve on a jury, so the new version has been updated so that each role can be portrayed by any gender.
“Characters have no names,” she said. “They are identified only by juror numbers 1-12 or by their role in the courtroom: judge, guard, clerk, foreman. Characters are also distinguished by their unique motivations and prejudices which they bring to the jury room as they make this life or death decision.”
FHS speech coach Sam Garles performs the role of the judge, who has an offstage speaking part. Ella Holderbaum is the student stage manager, and she voices the offstage clerk. The guard is played by Daisy Trent and the jury foreman is played by David Creer.
The other 11 jurors are Jacob Carlson, Erin Epperson, Connor Hawkins, Elizabeth Hootman, Allison Hunger, Nicole Hunger, Manon Kermott, Evie Messer, Nora Salek, Felicia Strong, and Marcus Trent.
Student crew members include Benjamin Bartle, Joseph Clemons, Emma Crandall, Brock Curtis, Alexis Eisenbraun, Mia Gates, Tristen Garretson, Valerie Hernandez, Ella Holderbaum, Seth Johnson, Wyatt Johnson, Olivia Kensel, Stormy Lint, Meara Malloy, Dayton Mauck, Kat Phippen, S. Poletti, Moon Sutherland, and Pearl Winheim.
Assisting Wotherspoon with direction are adult volunteers Meshari Alnouri, Tim Roush, and Betsie Wotherspoon.
