How will your high school experiences help you in coming years?
Throughout high school I took many dual-enrollment college credit classes. I believe that taking these classes while still in high school have not only given me an incredible head start on college education, but helped me to save lots of money as well. I also think being very involved in many activities requiring me to have a very busy schedule has helped to create many important time management and life skills.
Fondest memory of high school?
My favorite memory of high school was when I was able to attend the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. We were able to see Old Dominion in concert, attend the World’s Toughest Rodeo, and be a part of many leadership activities at the convention. I became closer with my fellow FFA members, along with my FFA adviser.
Which teachers have had the biggest impact on your education and why?
My agriculture teacher, Samantha Godwin, has had the biggest impact on my life throughout my high school education. She has been a person in my life who is not only my teacher, but someone who has helped me with things beyond school. She encourages me to try new things, while also just being a listener when I need one. She has even allowed me to be in her classroom to observe her middle school classes and always offers advice about college life.
Who is your role model and how did they influence you?
Growing up my biggest role model was my babysitter. She was someone who I always wanted to be like. She was always in the paper for school, sports, and she even went to school to be an elementary teacher. I remember when she babysat me I would think about how she would act, so that when I was older I could act just like her.
What is special about your high school?
The most special thing about my high school is the close knit community we live in. Going to such a small, rural community school all my life, I have grown up with most of my classmates. My elementary teachers still know who we are and are involved in our life. We have such a supportive community and teachers who want what is best for us. Most teachers even know where everyone is going to college and what we want to major in which is not something that everyone gets to experience in high school.
If you could go back to when you were a freshman, what advice would you give yourself?
If I had the ability to go back as a freshman, I would tell myself to enjoy the moment. I remember being a freshman and all I could think about was being a senior and graduation. Now that it is so close, it’s bitter sweet. I would tell myself to enjoy every school dance, every fun day, every lunch period with your friends, etc. I would remind myself that one day it’s going to be the last time you walk down these halls, so embrace it and make as many memories as you can.
