Bruce R. ?Dick? McDowell

Bruce R. ?Dick? McDowell, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Arbor Court, in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at the Murphy Funeral Home, in Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. LuAnn Benge officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m., on Sunday, at the Murphy Funeral Home, in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., on Sunday evening.

McDowell was born on Feb. 21, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Emmett Forrest and Mary Ruth (Boyd) McDowell. He was united in marriage to Ethel Miller on June 28, 1951, at the Little Brown Church.

He worked for JI Case, of Burlington, for 27 years, retiring in 1993.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

McDowell is survived by his wife, Ethel, of Mt. Pleasant; and his children, Mike (Pat) McDowell, of Mt. Pleasant, Cindy (Terry) Welsh, of Grain Valley, Mo., Robert (Penny) McDowell, of Mt. Pleasant, David (Lisa) McDowell, of Olds, Mary (Carl) McGregor, of Lake Villa, Ill., and Kenny (Jill) McDowell, of Wayland; 12 grandchildren; several great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gwen Hawkins and Gretchen Liechty, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Linda (Steve) Smyth, of New London.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons; one sister, Shirley Andries; and two brothers, Donald McDowell and Brad McDowell.
