Burlington man arrested in drug raid

BURLINGTON ? Mt. Pleasant Police officers, along with the Henry County Sheriff?s Office executed a search warrant in Burlington Thursday, resulting in the arrest of Jeffrey Carpenter, 24.

Carpenter, 112 S. Marshall St., Burlington, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to deliver more than 10 grams of crack cocaine, a class B felony. He was taken to the Henry County Jail pending arraignment.

The search warrant was executed following a lengthy investigation into crack cocaine sales and delivery in the Mt. Pleasant area.

During the warrant, approximately two ounces of crack cocaine were located in the residence along with a large amount of U.S. currency, some of which was serialized-buy money from the drug transactions in Henry County.

Marijuana packaged for distribution also was located in the residence.

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff?s Office, the Department of Narcotics Enforcement, Burlington and West Burlington Police departments, Des Moines County Sheriff?s Office and the Southeast Iowa Drug Task Force.

Officials said the investigation was partially the result of concerned citizens assisting by calling in suspicious activity to their local law enforcement agencies.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
