Local Edward Jones financial advisor meets with lawmakers
John Stever, a Fairfield financial advisor for the financial services firm Edward Jones, recently met with legislators in Washington, D.C., to seek retirement savings incentives for individual investors and business owners.
This is the 34th year for this effort – making it one of the longest-running nationwide grassroots outreach efforts to Congress in existence.
Stever was one of 53 financial advisors chosen from among the firm's 17,500 who traveled to Washington, D.C., on behalf of individual investors.
Stever does this as a member of the firm's Grassroots Task Force, a group dedicated to voicing the investment concerns of individual investors to local, state and national lawmakers.
Edward Jones is the only large financial services firm in the nation to organize this kind of grassroots effort. The financial advisors carry significant weight with legislators because they speak for the needs and concerns of more than 7 million clients.
This year Stever discussed preserving and expanding the ability of investors to contribute to retirement vehicles, both at their place of work and on their own, as well as potential incentives for small business owners to create employer sponsored retirement plans for their employees.
