SALEM ? Local photographers and artists are again invited to participate in ?Camera and Canvas,? a fundraiser hosted by the Friends of the Salem Crew Public Library.
The exhibit and auction will be on Saturday, Aug. 27, as part of the Old Settlers Reunion in Salem. Deadline for entries is Aug. 1.
The donated work will be on exhibit along with a silent auction in the activity room at the library from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. A live auction featuring selected works will be at 3:30 p.m. In addition, there will be a ?People?s Choice Award? in each category as visitors to the exhibit will be asked to vote for their favorites.
?Last year was the first time we attempted such a focus for our annual library silent auction and we were delighted with its success,? commented Sheila Carr, a member of the committee. ?We not only raised money to support our genealogy project, but discovered how many very talented artists and photographers there are in our area.
?We appreciate their generosity in donating their work, allowing us to share it with the public while providing a new and exciting avenue to raise money for a worthy cause,? Carr continued. ?We look forward to having even more artists participate this year.?
Photography categories are: historical buildings, farm life, nature and a special category for black and white photos. Paintings will be placed in a separate open class. Artists under the age of 18 can submit entries of photography and paintings for a separate young artist category.
Entry forms and guidelines are available at the Salem Crew Public Library, the Mt. Pleasant Public Library, or by contacting Jim Dean at jjdean53@gmail.com or at 319-217-1924.
