The City of Fairfield will hold a special election on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to fill a vacancy on the City Council.
Council member Judy Ham died June 23 at the age of 66. She was in the middle of her second term representing Ward 3, having first been elected to the council in 2019 and re-elected in 2023.
The council voted unanimously on July 14 to hold a special election to fill Ham’s seat. Only voters in Ward 3 will participate in the election on Sept. 2, and candidates must live in the ward.
The deadline to file candidate paperwork at Fairfield City Hall is 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8. Candidates will need a minimum of 10 signatures from eligible electors in Ward 3 to qualify for the ballot.
Whoever wins the election will assume office immediately, and serve out the remaining two years on Ham’s term before the seat is up for election again in 2027.
