Rhoda Martin, left, sells cantaloupes from her family farm to Fairfield residents Andrew and Gina Josephs at the Fairfield Farmers? Market Wednesday afternoon in Howard Park. A strain of salmonella sickening people in 22 states and killing two Kentucky residents has been tied to tainted cantaloupe from Chamberlain Farms in Indiana. Martin hadn?t noticed a change in sales Wednesday regardless of the news. Andrew Josephs said he was aware of the outbreak, but felt safe buying cantaloupes from a local farm. ?I always prefer buying local,? he said. ?Local food is naturally fresher.? The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued advice to consumers to ask grocery stores where they purchased cantaloupe to ensure it isn?t from Chamberlain Farms.
