FAIRFIELD - A vehicle backed into the front entrance of U.S. Cellular in Fairfield over the weekend, smashing its large display window. The business was closed at the time of the incident, and no one was harmed.
According to U.S. Cellular employee Hunter Conley, the vehicle destroyed the front window of the business's store on the south side of Fairfield's square just before the store was scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9. According to the driver and the authorities who investigated the incident, the driver started the vehicle remotely, but the vehicle had been left in reverse instead of in park, so it backed up on its own until crashing into U.S. Cellular's storefront.
Conley said it took about 2.5 hours to clean up the glass and other debris. He said the business has temporarily replaced the window with a board while it waits for a replacement window to be delivered, which he estimated would be in one week.
