WASHINGTON — A car ran into Beans Pharmacy in Washington on Wednesday. A Washington Police Department Call For Service Log said there were “no injuries in the vehicle and everyone inside the business is OK.”
In an email, WCHC Director of Marketing Greta Clemons said the vehicle damaged the interior and exterior wall of the building, but did not go through it. A police report said the car also broke a window on the structure.
“We're relieved that there were no injuries among our customers or staff,” Clemons said. “The pharmacy has been assessed from a structural perspective and deemed safe to continue operations so it will remain open. The safety and well-being of our patients and customers always remain our top priority.”
Clemons said costs and a timeline for repairs were still being evaluated as of Thursday morning. Pharmacy staff said the building’s damage did not change its hours, or the availability of in-store and drive-thru services. The damaged part of the building is currently covered by a tarp.
A Call For Service Log said the Iowa State Patrol would file an accident report. Such a report was not yet publicly available as of Thursday morning.
It’s the fifth instance of a vehicle vs. building accident in the city in the last two years. Other cars in Washington have hit Dodici’s Coffee, McDonald’s, Taste of China, and the front of a BP gas station since 2022.
