WASHINGTON — A vehicle rolled near the intersection of Highway 92 and Larch Avenue and Washington County Sunday night, sending its driver to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by AirCare after a passerby reported the wreck.
An Officer’s Preliminary Accident Report said the black 2008 Nissan Armada went into the ditch and that the “driver was trapped in culvert upside-down,” while the vehicle was “reported to be smoking and leaking fluid.”
At least five Washington County police officers responded to the scene, as did AirCare, Washington Fire, Washington EMS, and Rescue 92A, according to the report, which said state road officials were also contacted about “damage to a barrier.” The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was also contacted “for gas possibly leaking into a creek.”
The injured driver, a person from Keota, was identified in the report but will not be named by The Union, since the release said family members had not yet been notified. According to the document, the person was transported with “unknown injuries at this time and is in stable condition.”
