KALONA — Police say they’re investigating a collision on the Johnson-Washington county line Friday morning, where a car hit a horse-drawn buggy.
A preliminary accident report released last week said Kalona man Brennan Petersheim was traveling eastbound shortly before 7:30 a.m., but that “his vision was impaired by the sun shining in the windshield, making it hard to see ahead of his vehicle.”
Police said the car rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy near the intersection of Larch Avenue and Johnson-Washington Road, totaling both vehicles, injuring the horse, and throwing the buggy’s driver.
A Washington County Call for Service log said the buggy driver was unconscious on the scene, based on a dispatch received from Johnson County. The CFS record added that charges were pending against Petersheim, although none were publicly announced as of Monday morning.
The buggy driver was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital, according to police reports.
