How will your high school experiences help you in coming years?
My high school experiences gave me the confidence to do many things in life, whether it be doing stuff that I would enjoy or just to stand up for myself. My high school experiences also gave me some long-lasting friends that I can see myself keeping for years to come.
Fondest memory of high school?
My fondest memory of high school was the day that I met my best friend. It was the first day of high school, and she was a new student. Our band director paired her with me so that I could show her around school, and we just stuck together. I look back on this memory so fondly because it changed so much of my present and future and gave me a whole new perspective of what a friendship should be.
Which teachers have had the biggest impact on your education and why?
The teacher that had the biggest impact on my education was my band director, Luke Miller. He always pushed me to be better not only in band, but even as a person sometimes (even when I may not have wanted to). I also always knew that I could go to him for academic advice in terms of what classes I should take. By the end of high school, I would consider him a friend.
Who is your role model and how did they influence you?
I wouldn’t say that I had one sole role model, as I tend to take bits and pieces from many influential people in my life. One of my role models is my best friend. She always has such a friendly confidence in new situations and is not afraid to be totally her quirky self. Occasionally it would freak me out, but I think that I would honestly be more freaked out if she wasn’t like that. I strive to be more of myself in new situations because of her influence.
What is special about your high school?
I think the most special thing about my high school is the sense of community that it has. Granted I think that comes with almost every small school, but it’s nice to have. Even though different groups may argue at times, you tend to see some of the strangest friend groups pop up. I know that for me personally, I could talk to just about anyone in my class and have a decent conversation.
If you could go back to when you were a freshman, what advice would you give yourself?
I would tell myself to not cram so much for academics. Yes, it has helped my in the long run, but at the cost of my mental health in many places. I know that if I had given myself more time to enjoy what I was going through, I would be a more content adult today. I don’t regret any of my high school experiences or choices, but nonetheless I could have used less stress as a freshman.
