Cardinal, Pekin in mat action at Davis County; Mustangs sweep

BLOOMFIELD ? The Cardinal wrestling team split a double dual with host Davis County and Pekin Thursday night in Bloomfield.

The Comets came out on top of Pekin by a final score of 49-24 but fell to the Mustangs 61-15.

Ryan Cale, Robert McLaughlin and Austin Cassat picked up the three victories vs. Davis County as part of a 2-0 record for the night.

Cale won by fall vs. the Mustangs and received a forfeit at 112 pounds vs. Pekin. McLaughlin picked up a 9-4 decison vs. Pekin?s Justin Haile and beat Davis County?s James Schooley 4-1 ? both at 135 pounds. Cassat won a 4-0 decision vs. Derek Morales of Pekin at 285 and pinned the Mustangs? Zach Hale at 215.

Also winning for the Comets in the victory over Pekin was Blake Wright (130), Austin Deshler (140), Joe Olson (145), Sid McMartin (160), Josh Fuhs (171), Tonch Craver (189) and Andrew Hemm (215).

Cardinal will be back in action Saturday at the Van Buren Invite in Keosauqua.

Davis County upends Panthers

BLOOMFIELD ? Pekin fell to host Davis County by a final score of 59-18.

Branden Baayen (103) and Jacob Cooley (152) both won by fall while Aaron King (119) and Austyn Vogel (125) picked up decision scores of 14-7 and 4-0, respectively.

The foursome also tallied all four wins in the 49-24 loss to Cardinal.
