DANVILLE ? Danville committed five errors and Cardinal blasted two home runs all in the second inning as part of the Comets? 12-1 rout of the Bears Wednesday night.
Lindsay Moore?s three-run round-tripper with two outs in the second made the score 6-0 and Felisha Durflinger put one over the left-centerfield fence one pitch late to put Cardinal ahead by seven. Allison Ollom hit a two-RBI single later in the frame to wrap up the big inning.
?Good things happen when you put the ball in play, and we hit the ball hard all night long.? said Cardinal head coach Darren Hill. ?We had 21 base runners in five innings of play, and when you put that kind of pressure on a defense, it does not take long to take over them game.?
Moore, Cory Campbell, Laci Moore and Chelsea Aschenbrenner were all 2-4 at the plate. Durflinger finished 2-3 and was also the winning pitcher as she allowed five hits and one walk while fanning seven.
Cardinal is 9-4 overall, 5-1 in the SEISC south, and travel to Van Buren for another conference game tonight.
Pekin 8, Lone Tree 5
LONE TREE ? The Pekin softball team snapped a two-game conference losing streak and picked up an 8-5 win at Lone Tree Wednesday night.
Starting pitcher Leslie Stone allowed one baserunner through the first three innings and provided enough time for her offense to get going. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed again.
Stone finished the game with five strikeouts while allowing six hits and three walks to earn the win.
After Lone Tree cut the lead back down to two in the bottom of the fourth, Pekin answered with a four-run fifth inning to provide needed insurance.
?We really responded to what they did in the fourth, which is something we have not been doing,? said Pekin head coach Bryan Marlay. ?So that was great to see.?
Cheyann Lankford had a big game as the No. 2 hitter for the Panthers going 2-3 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Maranda Baker was 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and Kaitlin Spilman drove in another while going 1-4.
Pekin is now set to host Winfield-Mount Union tonight at home for another SEISC north matchup.
