ELDON ? The Cardinal bats teed off on another SEISC south division opponent Tuesday night.
In five innings, the Comets picked up a 14-4 win over Holy Trinity at home.
Cory Campbell continued her hot hitting going 4-4 with three extra base hits, crossed the plate all four times and drove in two more. Sarah Greiner was 2-2 with two RBI?s, Felisha Durflinger was 3-4 with a double and power-hitting Lindsay Moore was 2-3 with home run, a triple and three runs scored. Liz Nichols and Chelsea Greiner also hit doubles as one of their two hits.
Durflinger pitched all five innings for Cardinal striking out five and allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
The 9-4 Comets (6-1 SEISC south) will play a doubleheader at Class 2A 10th-ranked Pekin Friday night.
Van Buren 4, West Burlington 3
WEST BURLINGTON ? The Van Buren softball team squeaked past West Burlington Tuesday night for a 4-3 SEISC south division victory.
Mackenzie Smith paced the nine-hit offense going 3-4, Jessica Saunders was 2-4 while Olivia Birch, Hannah Haynes and Kassie Myers all recorded a double. Saunders struck out three and gave up eight hits in seven innings of work to earn the win.
The Warriors are scheduled to host New London Thursday night.
Baseball: Van Buren 9, West Burlington 0
KEOSAUQUA ? The Van Buren baseball team shut out West Burlington for a 9-0 win at home Tuesday night.
Jory Heckenberg rocked a complete game two-hitter that included seven strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound.
Court Garrett hit two balls out of the park on his way to five RBI?s, Blake Scott ripped a bases loaded double that scored three runs and Spencer Bartholomew picked up two hits of his own.
Next up for the Warriors will be another home game in Keosauqua vs. Mediapolis Thursday night.
