FAIRFIELD — The Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield is holding a “Spring Tag Sale” this weekend to sell items it no longer needs and which do not fit into its exhibits.
The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 12-13. Each item has an individual tag indicating its price.
The museum stated in a news release that the sale items include duplicates, those that have been deaccessioned, and non-Jefferson County items.
“The museum is overloaded with donations that have been stored for years, and it is time to move them and sell them to community members who have a special place in their hearts for memorabilia,” said Museum Public Relations Chair Dave Neff.
The museum has set out tables full of modern, vintage, antique and contemporary items. These will include books, collectibles, home décor, kitchen items, tools, camera equipment, clothing, sheet music, furniture, toys, advertising signs, old pharmacy bottles and more.
In addition to the tag sale items, everything in the museum’s gift shop will be discounted 30 percent. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the museum by helping build, restore and maintain items in its collections.
Carnegie Museum Assistant Director and Curator Jake Schmidt said the museum has a large number of items that once belonged to Lee Gobble, such as his collection of turkey figurines. He said another treasure trove of items that will be for sale include cameras and equipment that Dr. Glottfelty used in the 1930s and 1940s.
“These are things that don’t fit with our mission,” Schmidt said. “This sale is going to free up a lot of space in storage.”
Schmidt thanked museum volunteer Charlotte Wright for spending countless hours going through each item and assigning it a tag.
Questions about the tag sale can be directed to Schmidt at 641-472-6343.
