Washington Park Board Commissioner Carol Ray announced today that she will not seek election this November. Ray was appointed to the park board in January to fill the seat previously occupied by Fran Stigers.
Ray said she is still interested in improving city parks but said six years on the board is a long term ? too long for her.
?I could have done two years but I couldn?t commit to six,? she said Wednesday.
Ray said she plans to work with the board and other park enthusiasts to educate motorists about the rights of pedestrians, especially in the downtown.
?Lots of people don?t know you?re supposed to stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk,? she said. ?I?ve talked to people who come from other states, and they?re appalled at the way drivers pay no attention to pedestrians. You can be in the crosswalk and they?ll practically run you over.?
