Carolyn Wright, 77, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA died Monday, March 7, 2016, at Parkview Home in Wayland, IA.
A visitation will be held from 12-8 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. that evening. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15th at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. ...

Carolyn Wright, 77, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA died Monday, March 7, 2016, at Parkview Home in Wayland, IA.
A visitation will be held from 12-8 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. that evening. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15th at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. Inurnment will be Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to St. Jude Children?s Hospital, Washington County Hospice or to the charity of the donor?s choice. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.
Carolyn Fern Wright was born April 13, 1938 to Virgil Gerig Blosser and Edith Laurine (Hirschy) Blosser in Wayland, Iowa. She attended Wayland schools and 2 years at Iowa Wesleyan college in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Carolyn was married to John Billingsley for 3 years prior to divorcing. On July 7, 1980 she was united in marriage to Robert W. Wright in a garden wedding at the home of her grandparents, Joe and Lydia Hirschy, in Wayland.
Carolyn was employed for 40 years at the Mt. Pleasant, Mental Health Institute and Correctional Facility. During that time, she served on the dietary board at the national level and also one term as the President of the Iowa Dietary Association. Carolyn was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite church in rural Wayland and later attended the Salem Friends Church in Salem, Iowa. She loved music and wrote a Christmas song which was sung at a Christmas program at the Salem Friends Church. Carolyn was a member of the Sweet Adelines and Rhythm Rockers winning the first place in their class several times. She loved making beautiful things which included crocheting and embroidering many gifts. Carolyn attended the Iowa Poetry Society and wrote many poems some of which are included in this group?s books of poetry. Art was also a hobby of hers. Carolyn took classes in art and enjoyed watercolors particularly. She spent many hours reading, gardening and preserving, and was especially well known for her cooking and baking.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Doug Billingsley, of Davenport, Iowa; daughter, Susan Gill, and Norman Blietz of 29 Palms, California; and step son, Ronald Wright, of Burlington, Iowa. Grandchildren include Racinda (Carl) Chave of South Carolina, Michael Billingsley of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Mark (Kayla) Billingsley of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Rhonda (Markius) Holmes of Waterloo, Iowa. Great grandchildren include Lauren Chave, Jamison, Jaxson, Jayden, and Jordan Billingsley. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leon Blosser; and an infant granddaughter, Lila Marie Billingsley.
