The Fourth of July weekend figures to be a blast all around Washington County. Wellman will have fun activities for the whole family Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The Wellman High School reunion is at noon on Saturday at the high school and is open to anyone who has ever gone to Mid-Prairie High School.
At 2 p.m. there will be a garden-tractor pull at the south park. Wellman Utility Clerk Chris Huston said this year will not be the first year the town has had a garden-tractor pull. She said that in previous years, the town has had demolition derbies. She said it will be fun to see how far the garden tractors can pull the weights attached to it. She said the engines to such garden tractors are altered to give them more horsepower for these kinds of events.
Those who are in Wellman Saturday night can attend a street dance complete with a live band, which begins at 9 p.m. and ends at 12:30 a.m. The band is ?Hard Barney? and will play classic rock music from the 1970s and 1980s. Huston said it will be the first time ?Hard Barney? has performed in Wellman.
?There is normally a good crowd for the street dance, but last year it was down a little because it was the same weekend as Trek Fest in Riverside,? said Huston.
The festivities continue Sunday morning when there will be a classic car show at the north park. The car show will last from 8 a.m. to noon.
Just like Saturday, Sunday night will be alive with the sound of music. Local bands and musical acts will perform at the bandshell in Wellman at 7 p.m. The evening culminates in the fireworks display at approximately 9:30 p.m. Huston said the fireworks will be shot off at the golf course and that they can be easily viewed from the north park.
