Charges filed following two-vehicle accident
A two-vehicle accident on Thursday, Jan. 21, resulted in charges being filed against one of the drivers.
The Henry County Sheriff?s Office says deputies responded to a car-truck accident in the 2600 grid of Racine Avenue. A 2000 GMS Sierra, operated by Joseph Mertens, 61, of New London, was traveling eastbound on 260th Street when it failed to yield to a northbound 2007 Toyota Corolla, operated by Terry Zmolek, ...

A two-vehicle accident on Thursday, Jan. 21, resulted in charges being filed against one of the drivers.
The Henry County Sheriff?s Office says deputies responded to a car-truck accident in the 2600 grid of Racine Avenue. A 2000 GMS Sierra, operated by Joseph Mertens, 61, of New London, was traveling eastbound on 260th Street when it failed to yield to a northbound 2007 Toyota Corolla, operated by Terry Zmolek, 42, of Winfield. Zmolek was traveling on Racine Avenue.
Zmolek was transported by ambulance to the Henry County Health Center for injuries sustained in the accident.
Mertens was charged with operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor, and failure to maintain control, a simple misdemeanor.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
