Chefs to bring the heat in third-annual Wings in the Spring competition

Novice and seasoned chefs will get the chance to test their wings on the public's taste buds during the third-annual Wings in the Spring competition by Main Street Mt. Pleasant.

Wings in the Spring will kick off with the season's first Market on Main in Central Park Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wings in the Spring will be from 5 to 8 p.m. and Whiskey Friends will begin playing at 6 p.m.

Lisa Oetken, director of Main Street Mt. Pleasant, said that there are 10 to 15 contestants putting their best foot forward to win the title of resident's favorite wings.

'I think this year if the weather is good, we're going to have a good crowd. People are tired of being inside,” Oetken said.

Main Street also will be selling craft beer from Golden Eagle Brewery.

Oetken said that Wings in the Spring kicks off Main Street Mt. Pleasant's summer season.

Oetken said that despite construction, downtown Mt. Pleasant has seen a resurgence in people shopping downtown.

'People are starting to get the importance of shopping local, and I think these events are starting to bring more people down and make more people aware of our downtown,” Oetken said.

Oetken also said that with more people on their Main Street Mt. Pleasant's promotions committee, there are more people talking about Main Street events.

Oetken is especially looking forward to Wings in the Spring because of the fun, competitive spirit that comes with it.

'Across the board, we're doing some events that will hit that millennial generation,” Oetken said.
