MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Childcare Center finished its first day of business on Tuesday.
According to Director Amy McLaughlin, the center is running smoothly other than some minor issues on the first day of operation for the community-based child care center.
McLaughlin said her staff was the most important factor in the successful first day.
“I think it’s gone really well, we have some fantastic staff members and that’s what makes a great business,” McLaughlin said. “We have some great staff.”
“It’s going to take a few days to learn the ropes and learn how to do this, but I think we’ve had a really good start today,” she added.
With the firm starting date yesterday, July 6, the construction crews worked over the weekend to ensure the center was ready to take kids Tuesday morning when they opened at 6 a.m.
With construction finished and the center becoming home, McLaughlin and her crew of staff members wrangled the group of 20-25 kids for the first time ever.
The child care center is fulfilling a major need in the community that has limited it’s economic potential for years.
“I think it’s a new chapter for Mt. Pleasant in terms of having a community-based day care because there hasn’t been one here in 10 years. The community has really welcomed us,” McLaughlin said.
The child care center still needs donations including gliding rocking chairs (not regular rocking chairs), kitchen utensils, pots, pans, Tupperware and toys.
The child care center still is accepting registration for all age groups at this time. The center phone number is 319-348-1984.
