Forty-five local children competed in a trampoline and gymnastics intra-team competition Dec. 1 at the Roosevelt Recreation Center.
In front of an overflow crowd of spectators, Kristin Burnstedt claimed first place in the trampoline competition, followed by Juliette Pohren in second place and Justin Simmering in third.
Then came the gymnastics portion, which consisted of four events: floor exercises, bars, vault and beam. In floor exercises, Danae Drish took first place; Pohren and Burnstedt finished second and third, respectively. The bars saw Sydney Clark win first, while Simmering came in second and Pohren was third. Pohren also finished first in the vault, while Drish earned runner-up and Ella Pollet claimed third place. Beam placewinners were Burnstedt in first place, Ashlyn Elmore in second and Pohren claiming third.
Winners of the overall trophies were Pohren, first; Simmering, second; and Burnstedt, third.
The pommel horse was substituted for beam, and the parallel bars were substituted for uneven bars for the young male athletes.
Coaches of both gymnastics and trampoline are USA Gymnastics-certified instructors Jeff and Jeanne Ide. They are assisted by Angie Clark.
