FAIRFIELD – The Fairfield Band Aides will host Chocolate Sunday on Dec. 5, a fundraiser for the Fairfield High School choir and band programs.
The event will run from 2-4 p.m. at Fairfield Middle School. Entry to the event is free this year, and free will donations are accepted, and the public is invited to attend. The FHS choir and band will perform at the event. Attendees will have a chance to bid on holiday gift baskets in a silent auction and enjoy yummy treats while listening to the musical performances.
Beth Alonso, one of the organizers of the event, said Fairfield Band Aides, said the group made the event free so that as many people as possible could attend.
She said the FHS band and choir departments use the money fundraised to purchase sheet music and other supplies.
Alonso has been helping with the annual Chocolate Sunday event for the past three years. She got involved because her two children have been involved in the band and choir programs in middle and high school.
“I’ve always been a big supporter of the arts, and feel it is really important for kids’ development,” she said.
Alonso was in choir herself, and wishes she had gone out for band, too. She said Fairfield has strong band and choir programs that make everyone feel welcome. She noted that the school partners with Fairfield Band Aides to purchase musical instruments for students who can’t afford them.
“It has been a pretty rough couple of years, and music has a way of lifting people up and allowing for self-expression,” she said. “We need more of that in our lives. Whenever I hear the students’ concerts, I feel inspired.”
