?[City administrator Jeff Clawson] and I discussed this some, and I guess we?re both of the opinion that we have a bond, everybody has to have a first job and as long as their attitude is right ? they?re willing

A contract for three blocks of water main improvements was awarded to a newly formed company out of Cedar Rapids Monday night.
Premier Excavating?s bid of $62,552.67 was the lowest of six Fairfield received.
?[City administrator Jeff Clawson] and I discussed this some, and I guess we?re both of the opinion that we have a bond, everybody has to have a first job and as long as their attitude is right ? they?re willing to try and do a good job ? we?re willing to work with them,? engineer Jerry Long of French-Reneker-Associates Inc. told the Fairfield City Council.
Long received a recommendation letter for the two brothers who split from another company.
Mayor Ed Malloy referenced a couple item unit prices in the bid that were considerably lower than the other bidders who seemed to all be in the same range. He asked if that was a concern.
